Located at the Garneau Theatre, an icon on Edmonton’s skyline built in 1940, Metro Cinema is a throwback to the timeless cinema experience with reasonable admission prices and a classic deco movie house. Even the popcorn is old school, made with coconut oil and butter! There are often introductions by filmmakers, hosted talks after the movie, or themed lobby activities to make it even more memorable.
Part art house, part cinematheque, part nostalgia, Metro shows a little bit of everything on its single screen. They screen documentaries to foreign films, local to national filmmaker debuts, new releases that aren't playing elsewhere in the city, and films you haven't thought about in 30 years. With 800 screenings a year, Metro has some of it all to be shared with your fellow movie lovers!
