Relight the Neon

In honour of the infamous Flashback nightclub!

Discover the enchanting story of Flashback, Canada's own Studio 54! Join us at the Neon Sign Museum, where we'll honor this iconic queer-owned business that forever changed Edmonton's culture. Established by owner John Reid as a haven for 'gay people and their friends' in the turbulent 1980s, Flashback witnessed it all. After its closure in 1991, the club's iconic neon sign was lost from public view, until now. The beloved Flashback sign is being restored and will be raised on the wall of the Mercer Building! Celebrate its return to the same block where the original nightclub once stood.

To add to the excitement, the sign and the legendary club it represents are the subject of a new feature documentary film set to premiere in 2024. Experience the joy of this historic occasion with special guest speakers, with background music provided by Flashback's own DJ Mikee and John Reid, the man behind the sign! Be part of history as the Flashback sign becomes the first 2SLGBTQIA+ sign to illuminate the outdoor display of historic Edmonton businesses.
