Indigenous Veterans Day at Métis Crossing

A meaningful day of remembrance.

Visit Métis Crossing for a meaningful day of remembrance as we pay tribute to Indigenous Veterans who have served in missions across Canada and around the world in times of war, conflict, and peace. The event will feature an Opening Ceremony, a Moment of Reflection, a wreath-laying at the Veterans Monument, and a Closing Ceremony with a community gathering. Please note that some parts of the event will be outdoors, so please dress for the weather.

On November 8, we observe Indigenous Veterans Day, a day of reflection and gratitude for the many sacrifices made by Indigenous Veterans. This day was first acknowledged in 1994 to honour Indigenous contributions to the military service. While exact numbers are unknown, it has been estimated that as many as 12,000 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis served. First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities in Canada have a rich and proud tradition of military services. Indigenous Veterans Day serves as a poignant reminder of the unique sacrifices and challenges faced by these brave individuals. Join us in acknowledging and thanking Indigenous Veterans for their service and sacrifices.
