A Mecca for visual art lovers, the Art Gallery of Alberta is itself a masterpiece of architecture as well as the diverse creative focal point of Edmonton’s downtown heart.
With a swirling exterior of zinc, glass and steel inspired by Edmonton’s unique northern environment – its silver colour reflect the shimmering, multi-coloured Aurora Borealis – the Art Gallery of Alberta exudes creativity even from the outside. Los Angeles-based architect Randall Stout’s stunning structure has put a modern spin on Alberta’s oldest cultural institution.
From original contemporary to historical exhibitions from Alberta, across Canada and around the world, explore over 6,000 objects throughout three bright and airy floors of viewing space. Engage with your inner artist on All Access Evenings (free admission Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:00pm-8:00pm), or take the kids on Tours for Tots. Attend enlightening talks and films in the Ledcor Theatre, roll up your sleeves at drop-in arts workshops at the Singhmar Centre for Art Education, dine on local artisanal Alberta cuisine at Zinc Restaurant then take home your very own masterpiece from Shop AGA.
