It’s all laughs all the time for Edmonton’s longest running improv comedy company, Rapid Fire Theatre. Having scored a drawer-full of international awards, they’ve been dishing out guffaws for more than three decades in the form of high-energy improvisation, collaborations, theatre for young audiences, full-length plays and comedy workshops. Rapid Fire performs two weekly shows at Zeidler Hall, Theatresports – a hilarious comic competition complete with judges – and CHiMPROV, long form improvisation. They’re also at the helm of a flurry of funny-bone fests including BONFIRE , The Wildfire Festival for gutsy high school students and Canada’s biggest improv comedy celebration, the annual international 10-day Improvaganza.

Deliciously duplicitous plots have been unleashed weekly for more than two decades at the Varscona Theatre in the form of live improvised soap operas. Juggle together a classic play or two, shuffle in some tunes and stir it all up with spur-of-the-moment dialogue and humour and you have Die-Nasty, an award-winning live soap opera that’s had Edmonton audiences rolling in the aisles since 1991. It also counts some of Canada’s best comedians and actors among its alumni. Each Monday night from October to May will immerse followers deeper into the cheating hearts and naughty desires of the post-Victorian era in a mash-up of Downton Abbey and the British master/servant period hit Up-stairs, Downstairs.
