Threads That Connect

Get inspired by a legacy of intricate Ukrainian embroidery and weaving.

Presented by Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts and Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre at MacEwan University, Threads That Connect is inspired by a legacy of intricate Ukrainian embroidery and weaving created by artisans from Ukraine and the diaspora. Embroidery and weaving are synonymous with Ukrainian cultural identity. Linens, tapestry, and clothing are the threads that connect us to our past, our families, and the community. And, they are the fibers that have created a global network linking descendants with their homeland. The exhibit pays particular attention to fashion and performance costuming and the role they play in preserving folk art and helping maintain Ukrainian identity during global strife and the challenges of immigration and relocation.
