2024 WNBA Canada Game
Explore Edmonton proudly hosted the WNBA Canada Game at Rogers Place on May 5, 2024. The event was sold out and had 16,655 enthusiastic fans in attendance, showcasing Edmonton's vibrant sports culture.
The game achieved remarkable global reach, broadcasting to 195 countries and experiencing a 65% increase in Canadian TV viewership compared to the previous year. The economic impact was substantial, generating a total of $10.2 million and creating demand for 3,710 hotel room nights. Local businesses also played a key role in the event’s success, with over 20 Edmonton-based organizations contributing to game day operations and ancillary activities. From catering to event logistics, these partners ensured a memorable experience for all attendees.
In addition to the game, the event also celebrated the revitalization of the Wîhkwêntôwin School basketball court. Through a collaboration between Sport Edmonton, NBA Canada, Explore Edmonton, Edmonton Public School Board, and the City of Edmonton, the court now serves as an inspiring space for future basketball talent. The court is also home to a new, beautiful mural by local Indigenous artist Rashelle Campbell.
