Scared to measure yourself at home? Not sure if you’ll love the shoes? You can see and touch the shoes in person at their Whyte Avenue showroom and headquarters where they can measure you in person and answer all your questions. If you’re lucky enough to have standard sized feet and you can’t wait to wear them, they have a small selection of common sizes and styles that you can walk out of the showroom in.
Poppy Barley brings attainable luxury to anyone in North America with access to the internet. This is the opposite of mass manufacturing. Their shoes are made one by one, after the order is placed. Like the good old days, when quality was more important than markups.
Poppy Barley releases new styles and limited edition collections every season, but this is far from fast-fashion. Classically fashionable styles are designed to withstand fleeting trends, and the high quality craftsmanship keeps these shoes stepping longer than anything you’d find in a big box store.
Have you ever found the perfect pair of boots in a store then had your heart broken when they couldn’t quite zip up your athletic calves? Or they were too wide for your narrow feet? When Justine Barber was in Bali, a shoe maker didn’t have boots that fit her properly, so they took her measurements and mailed a pair to her home back in Edmonton. She wondered why that couldn’t happen to her at home. Inspired by this experience, Justine partnered with her sister, Kendall, and started building the poster-child for Edmonton startups that Poppy Barley is today. What a brilliant idea!
How do you get made-to-measure boots and shoes delivered to your doorstep? It’s easy! All you need is a computer and a measuring tape. Choose the style of shoe or boot you like from the online store. Tell them your measurements (length, width, boot height, calf width). Wait patiently for your custom shoes to arrive in 4-8 weeks.
Starting with tall boots for women, they’ve since expanded into flats, ankle boots, heeled boots, and men’s dress shoes. That’s right, women aren’t the only ones with tough-to-fit feet. For all you dapper gents looking for classic oxfords, derbies, chukkas and wingtips, Poppy Barley speaks your language.
Poppy Barley footwear is proudly made in a family-owned factory in Leon, Mexico, considered the shoe capital of the world. Leon is a city that’s been making shoes since 1645 with everything shoemakers need within a 36 kilometre radius (leathers, soles, hardware, etc). Poppy Barley’s talented artisans have been making shoes for decades and they welcome full transparency about their footwear, revealing everything from production practices to factory conditions.
A luxury footwear brand, headquartered in Edmonton? It makes sense to us, but some might question why they aren’t based out of a bigger fashion centre like New York. The Barber sisters (co-founders) live and play in Edmonton, and our community embraces new ideas like online made-to-measure footwear. It helps that our boot-wearing season is longer than most cities, but it’s the cheerleaders in the local business community and die-hard Alberta-based customers that keeps Poppy Barley growing in our fine city.
