Discover little-known gems and experience the best in independent filmmaking from around the globe with a line-up of more than 60 dramatic and documentary features as well as 110 short films, all Edmonton premieres. Every year for the past two decades EIFF has invited up-and-coming and veteran writers, actors, producers and filmmakers like Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini, Norman Jewison, Deepa Mehta, Werner Herzog, Don McKellar, Bruce McDonald and many more. Get your creativity flowing by taking part in the unique 24/ONE film challenge where anyone can sign up to produce a short film of six minutes or less within 24 hours. Short-listed entries will enjoy a World Premiere screening; awards are doled out for everything from Best Actress to Best Use of Props, and the audience votes for the Best Film which is bestowed a monetary prize and bragging rights! It’s an intimate festival that packs a hefty programming punch.
