Musical mavericks, dancing and great food under open skies are all part of the funky three-day Interstellar Rodeo summer festival.
Bring a lawn chair, spread a blanket on the grassy slopes or grab a covered seat in Hawrelak Park’s open-air Heritage Amphitheatre for a musical long weekend in late July. A diverse line-up has included genre-transcending rogues and outlaws who blaze their own trails, singer-songwriters, rising newcomers, much-loved stars like Sarah Harmer as well as classics the likes of Randy Newman, Steve Earl, and Blue Rodeo. The sky’s the limit and the aim is to put as much local and international talent into the spotlight as possible, introducing folks to new sounds. This year's lineup includes Sam Roberts Band, Marty Stuart and the folk-pop favourites, The Strumbellas.
Want to dance? Get up and groove in front of the stage. While a full palate of hot bands and solo artists works its magic onstage, the aromas of European and Asian street food tease the culinary palate as they drift from a hub of gourmet food trucks and creative café eatery stalls. A Drama Queen Veggie Burger or Bulgogi Meatballs to go with that cowpunk back beat anyone?
Tickets range from $75-$225 for weekend passes.
