You think you know Edmonton?
Check out our video series with local hosts showing you sides of Edmonton you may not have seen before.
Cold? Yes. Dark? Yes. Boring? Never.
Dan Park, a passionate Edmontonian and early advocate for Light the Bridge walks us through the city lit up on dark winter nights!
The High Level Bridge has over 50,000 LED lights making the iconic river valley structure shine bright at night. The Light the Bridge project was a grassroots initiative that gathered donations from Edmontonians and corporate sponsors to bring the vision to light. Every night, the colours change to represent social causes or events like Edmonton Oilers games. She's a beauty in the skyline at night!
Dan also walks us through the Neon Sign Museum on the corner of 104 Street and 104 Avenue. The City of Edmonton Heritage Planning has collected neon signs from old buildings and display the artful creations as a nod to the past. Each sign has an accompanying plaque telling the story of the business and sign.
Other stops along the way include skating at City Hall with trees lit up in Churchill Square and City Hall's glass pyramid in the background. During the holiday season, the Alberta Legislature is a hot spot for skating, hot chocolate. carolers, and winter strolls amongst the thousands of lights on the grounds. It's a magical place to walk through on the way to the illuminated High Level Bridge!
