Ahhh, summer. Where did you go? Is it really almost September already? The calendar and our fading tan lines say yes–but don’t worry, we’ve still got loads of stuff for you to do!
Symphony in the City
Get a taste of great music in the great outdoors during the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra’s Symphony in the City. Robert Bernhardt will lead the ESO in live orchestral accompaniment as they play Disney in concert. Bring the family down to Churchill Square for this free event and sit back, relax and savour the sounds from your lawn chair.
Spend the weekend in Borden Park to relish in two days of the greatest artists indie rock and pop have to offer, while enjoying the city's best food trucks, vendor village and so much more! This year's lineup includes Twenty One Pilots, Halsey, July Talk, Vance Joy, the Lumineers, and other awesome performances. Get your tickets quick, or be prepared to experience serious regrets.
Kaleido Family Arts Festival
A smorgasbord of creative performances explode onto Alberta Avenue for the Kaleido Festival. Everything from music, dance, theatre, and film to visual arts leads an action-packed three-day schedule that starts early and goes late.
The time has come, the long-awaited Rogers Place arena and ICE District opening is FINALLY here! To celebrate, Roger Place is kicking off the month with an Open House, giving groups a first glimpse at the brand-spanking-new public spaces and a taste of food and drinks on the menu. Of course, it doesn’t end there. Following the open house are four amazing concerts to fill up your calendar for the rest of the month.
Get ready, because this is going to be big. Edmonton is hosting the Festival International des Sports Extreme (FISE Hint: it's pronounced "feece.") World Series. Our city will come alive to cheer on the BMX Freestyle, MTB Slopestyle, BMX Flat and Skateboard competitions. The world's top athletes and amateurs will be competing in front of thousands of fans at Hawrelak Park. Want to know the best part? It's totally free to attend!
Western Canada Fashion Week
Ten whole days of fall fashion. Turtleneck sweaters and burgundy pants anyone? WCFW is a showcase of emerging and established designers in Edmonton's fashion and beauty industry. Runway shows, design competitions, performances and pop up shops will take over ATB Financial Arts Barns.
Dreamspeakers International Film Festival
Edmonton becomes the site of an international gathering of our own Dreamtalkers: filmmakers, actors, performers and artists. Aboriginal people from around the globe gather to share their common bond - a linkage with a natural world whose harmonies and rhythms are being forgotten by those who came later, offering a unique exploration into Aboriginal cultures.
Is this the year? We sure hope so! Let’s start it off with some good old fashioned playoff hockey. No pressure, McDavid. The pre-season begins with split squads facing off against the Calgary Flames in both Edmonton and Calgary at 7:00pm. What’s even better–this is the first game the Oilers will play in the new Rogers Place Arena!
Edmonton International Film Festival
Indulge your cinematic appetite with the Edmonton International Film Festival...and a large bag of popcorn (with butter of course.) This year’s festival is 10 days of independent, international and eye-opening films. Scout out some future stars with a red carpet that starts in the city of Edmonton.
September 29 - October 8
It may not be Germany, but we’re going to take our best shot at Bavarian style living. And for an added twist, because Oktoberfest typically celebrates great local beers, Albertan breweries will be at the forefront here in Edmonton. From sausages and soft pretzels to roast chicken and dumplings, you’d better bring an appetite to this one.
